Corporate Counsel Women of Color Conference and GramLin Visit

I was in Chicago last week - Tuesday, Oct. 9 - Saturday, Oct. 13. I arrived in Chicago around 8pm on Tuesday and returned to Atlanta around 2pm on Saturday.  I attended the 8th Annual Corporate Counsel Women of Color Conference.  I attended the first 5 but missed the last two because they were not in NYC. I know the founder, Laurie Robinson.

I had a great visit. I ran into a lot of people I knew from prior conferences, a few law school alums, and some other folks I know from the Atlanta area. A new pal of mine, Elizabeth, attended with me. I met her at the discovery symposium I attended in Nashville, TN in May.  She's Greek and Jamaican. She has 2 young sons; she and I have a lot in common.  Friday, the conference treated us to a movie and we saw Argo. Other folks saw Looper or Taken 2. I really enjoyed Argo.  Ben Affleck's directing ability gets better and better with each movie he directs. John Goodman, Alan Arkin, and Brian Cranston are really good in it too. I highly recommend seeing Argo.

I missed the kids and Roger a lot but it was a really positive experience going. The conference is a great mix of substantive legal topics and self-help lectures.

I got Sidney a tube filled with plastic sharks which he loves. Here is a picture of him matching up the toy hammerhead shark to the picture of the hammerhead shark in his favorite shark book.  He is fond of reciting the passage from the book that states, "hammerheads feast on venomous stingrays, even their venom-filled tails."  He loves hammerheads. I got him 3 new books about sharks from the library today.  Cleo has discovered Madeline books so I got her a lot from the library. Cleo is supposed to read us one book a night so she goes through a lot of books because she is not supposed to repeat any.

I brought back some plastic jewelry for Cleo, which she liked a lot. Here is a picture of her looking cute in a shirt that Linda brought her from Jacksonville.  Linda also brought Cleo a cute purple jacket with ruffles on the front and on the sleeves.

Roger's mom Linda was in town this past weekend for the installation of an Episcopal bishop. Saturday, Sidney, Roger, Linda, and I had dinner at Tad's Montana Grill.  Cleo did not sleep over at Alexandria's Saturday night.

Sunday, Cleo, Sidney, Linda, Roger and I had brunch at J. Christopher's in Vinings. While we waited for our table, the kids and Linda checked out the fountain.

And the window of shop already ready for Christmas.

After brunch, we drove Linda back to the Hyatt where she was staying. She and her pals (Carolyn and Alma) headed out around 12pm to start the drive back to Jacksonville.  We had a very nice visit with Linda and her pals.
