Today, Cleo and Sidney attended their classes at the Southwest Arts Center. Then we went home, had a quick snack and walked to Cleo's school for its Fall Festival. It was not a good festival but the kids had an okay time. Probably the most fun Sidney had was playing on the jungle gym. The ticket sellers did not have change so it took around 45 minutes for them to get change for a $20 bill. Agh. It was our fault for not bringing smaller bills and I will not make that mistake again. We got Cleo cotton candy, and both kids a scary pink and reddish popsicle, and cupcakes. I had a cupcake and it was really good - only $1. Kids R Kids, the daycare Sidney attends, has an annual fall festival in their parking lot. It is 10 times better than the one at Cleo's school that we attended this afternoon.
I did bring $3 so we had enough tickets for the kids to do the balloon burst game. Sidney initially wanted to do it but changed his mind.
The balloon burst immediately after I took this picture.
Sidney enjoying Cleo's school's playground. This is the playground that Cleo plays on every day during her 15 minute recess after her 10:15am lunch.
Cleo ran into 3 of her friends and played a little with them. Around 1pm, we walked back home. Deerwood Academy is .6 miles away from our house.
Then, we put the kids down for their naps. I fell asleep on Sidney's bed and got up to update my blog. Roger is asleep watching the Ryder Cup. We will get the kids up soon to play a little, eat dinner, take baths, enjoy movie night then bed. Tomorrow, we are not going to church. We are going to a 10am playdate at my friend Cindy's house. She lives in Powder Springs, GA which is around a 40 minute drive from our house. Cindy used to be a compensation manager in the human resources department at my job. She quit in March to be a stay at home mom to her son Matthew who was born in Jan. 2012 and her daughter Madison who will be 3 in Dec.
On September 27 (my mom's birthday!), Roger and I had a parent teacher conference with Cleo's teacher. We met with her for an hour. She clearly loves Cleo and informed us what a great student Cleo is. We are confident that Cleo is in a great class with a wonderful teacher.
Cleo has to memorize her phone number and be able to tell it to her teacher by Friday, Oct. 5. We have been working with her today trying to drill it into her memory. She cannot keep the last 4 digits straight and switches the 8 & 7.
This week, I will be in Macon, GA a few days for a customs compliance program review. I will be there Oct. 2-3 and will be sleeping over Oct. 2 at a hotel. Macon is a 1.5 hour drive from my house. Oct. 9-13, I will be in Chicago for the annual Corporate Counsel Women of Color Conference. My company is paying for my trip. I leave on an evening plane on Oct. 9 and return to Atlanta around 1pm on Saturday. Roger's mom is in town the weekend of Oct. 13-14 so we will see her Oct. 13 - she's not staying with us that weekend because she is there for an event. I am sad to be away from Roger and the kids for so long but I am excited to attend the conference. I attended it for the first 3 years when it was in NYC, but the past few years it has moved around, last year it was in Beverly Hills, CA.
Have a great week!
