Sidney's party yesterday was a great success. We had 17 kids come. We arrived at the museum at 10:15am and set up in Rail Car #112. Roger and I put up decorations. Cleo and Sidney put the juice in the refrigerator. Cleo was my assistant and handed me the decorations to put up. There were pictures of trains lining the walls of the train car. The car had wood paneling and Sidney commented that we were in Grandpa's house. Sidney said that because my dad's apartment has wood paneling on the walls in some of the rooms.
People started coming around 10:35am. At 11 we went into the museum. It has some huge decommissioned steam trains. One little room has model trains which the kids could activate by pressing a button. At 11:15am, we got on a train and took short train ride. Clark was our conductor, a boy around 13 or 14 years-old, who knew a lot about trains. He explained the history of some of the train engines that were on the grounds that we could see as we passed by. He also explained to the kids how trains stay on the tracks.
During the train ride, Sidney sat with Taylor Donald, his best bestie at school. I spoke to her mom and she said that Taylor was eager to hand Sidney her own birthday invitation and kept asking her mom if Sidney Wynn was coming to her party. She's having her party at the Children's Museum on Feb. 19. Sidney sat in a seat that faced 2 others so he sat next to Taylor and opposite to Bryce and Quintin. Bryce is our friend's Keisha and Kevin's son and Quintin is Cleo's classmate. Cleo is very good friends with Quintin's twin sister Alexandria, who Cleo sat with during the train ride.
The kids all got to hold on to their own train tickets and Clark punched the tickets as we got off. We then went back to the rail car. Roger went and got the Domino's pizza and me and some other parents handed out juice. Roger was back around 11:50am. We ate and then sang happy birthday. For pizza, Sidney sat next to Taylor Donald. For cake, he sat next to Taylor Hartwell. Taylor is Sidney's other best pal. We moved Sidney for the cake part because his pizza seat wasn't central enough for pictures.
During the "happy birthday" song, after we sang, "happy birthday dear Sidney," he interrupted the song during the pause and said, "no, no Taylor Hartwell's birthday." Also, when people were telling him happy birthday during the arrivals, he kept saying, "no, it's Jamari's birthday." I think at this point he's just joking.
People left around 12:30pm. We all cleaned up. Then, Roger loaded up the car. We then went to the gift shop because Sidney had a little coupon to select a t-shirt or engineer's hat. He selected a t-shirt. We also got him a little old school looking steam engine. Cleo selected a purple plastic train key chain. Our friends Guillermo and Lillian were in there with their 4 and 3 year-old sons at the train table. Sidney played a little. We left around 1pm.
When we got home, Roger put Sidney down for a nap and Cleo and I changed clothes and headed to Chuck E. Cheese for her friend Brookelyn's 5th birthday party. We got there around 3pm. It started at 2:30pm. A lot of Cleo's best pals were there. We played some games a bit then it was time for pizza and cake. Cleo ate a little pizza but no cake. She's not much of a cake eater. Sidney likes cake, especially cupcakes.
After cake and pizza, we walked around and played games. We cashed in our tickets around 4:30pm and Cleo selected a little roll of Sweet Tarts and a sheet of Chuck E. Cheese stickers. I will put those in her journal to document the event. Then, we went back to the table. Cleo was hungry so we snagged one of the remaining pepperoni slices. She prefers cheese only but she hadn't eaten very much during the day. She slowly and calmly ate her slice. She was so wiped out from the day. We sat with her pal Fallon and her older sister Jordan. Fallon's mom was off securing some pizza for them. They also have a 1 year-old sister. That's a handful.
Cleo and I left around 5:00pm and were home around 5:15pm. We got home. I got Sidney up from his nap and he opened his gifts. He got some really nice stuff! One funny gift was a Darth Vader mask that says some classic Darth lines from the various Star Wars movies. Sidney looks so incredibly cute in it. Cleo tried it on too and looked super cute.
Today, we are going food shopping and picking up 18 cupcakes for Sidney's class birthday celebration tomorrow. Later, I will go to the gym.
